Technology is an integral part of our daily lives but there’s little awareness of what happens to our devices when we upgrade.
The artist’s own curiosity and research around the electronic waste trade led to the creation of an interactive artwork which recreates a factory setting at A/D/O—a former site of industrial manufacturing. Here, visitors take on the role of factory workers to disassemble electronics, exploring the inner workings of phones and laptops, while learning about the affects of outsourcing recycling overseas and what we can do to help.
Join us for an artist’s talk about the concept behind Disassembly : Brooklyn followed by a guided interaction with the exhibit.
Refreshments provided.
Disassembly is a series of site-specific installations by artist Wiena Lin which explore our relationship with electronics, sustainability and global social justice.
