Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy is excited to announce their second annual Brass Bands Festival in the Park! Come enjoy a brand-new summer kickoff event that will feature both roving and stationary live musical sets by a diverse and energetic range of NYC’s brass band community. Visitors will experience the performance in an interactive and self-guided way throughout the afternoon, as New Orleans’ second-line style processionals welcome the public across multiple lawns and plazas.
The Bands
L Train Brass Band: A nonprofit community covering a wide variety of music, from pop and hip-hop—to funk and traditional NOLA jazz, with the primary goal of “keeping it weird.”
Sugartone Brass Band: Sugartone Brass Band has been Funkin’ up the brass band scene in New York City for nearly two decades. Sugartone is a fusion of New Orleans Brass Band with New York R&B, Hip-Hop, Reggae and Dance Music. The band was started in 2002 by founder, Moses Patrou. Sugartone Brass Band has appeared on MTV’s “Making the Band,” the James Beard Awards Show, BET’s “106 and Park,” the 2019 NAMM Show and ESPN Upfront.”
Ad Hoc Brass Band: A collective of local NYC musicians looking to recreate and represent the contemporary sounds of New Orleans. Ad Hoc Brass Band is the house band for JAMbalaya! the monthly NOLA jam session at Big aLICe Barrel Room in Industry City.
Stoop Kidz Brass Band: Stoop Kidz formed in 2020 during the pandemic, to bring joyous music to their community, and to give the musicians in the band an opportunity to grace the stage once again. They are thrilled to be leaving the stoop to perform in a new and better world.
Extra Syrup Horns: Extra Syrup Horns centers its sound around classic R&B, Hip Hop and Pop. Their sound is soulfully tight, evoking a Southern Marching Band swagger with a drive that only a city can produce.
