The ninth annual Night in the Library returns to Brooklyn Public Library‘s Central Library. A free marathon of performances, philosophical debates, music, readings, and lectures.
Attendees will join leading thinkers, scientists, writers, activists, and artists addressing the theme The Sky Above Brooklyn – The Philosophy of the Sublime. Throughout the evening, programs and performances will focus on moving beyond the influences of social media and the narratives of our time, embracing the complexity of our lives and continually broadening our perspective with renewed attention, sensitivity, and curiosity.
Several dozen speakers and performers will participate. Selected highlights include Sessions with the Wise: Ask an Elder, pairing participants with Brooklyn’s elders to offer perspectives on our most troubling conundrums; a conversation with the ACLU about the defense of civil liberties; Tashi Chodron performing the sacred Tibetan Cham dance symbolizing the triumph of good over evil, removing obstacles for viewers, and increasing harmony and good fortune for all; and muralist Katie Merz creating an interactive art project with audience participation. All programs are free, with books, food and refreshments available for purchase.
