Design Elements:
- Glossier NYC draws inspiration from both the origins of the brand and the nuanced details they love about New York City. In many ways, the materials, textures, palettes they use take cues from a New York City loft itself (the dream, right?)— elegant, raw, familiar, unfinished, with touches of vibrant colors and polished finishes. The concrete floors and plaster walls bring the feeling of a SoHo loft through rawness and industrial finishes, while the upholstered, plush sofas add a softer, more residential touch to the space.
- Upon entering Glossier NYC—their ninth location and latest flagship store—guests will be greeted with a “You Look Good.” tile mosaic embedded in the concrete floor. With each store they find ways to twist and play with details so the store responds to its context. And this tile and its artisan craftsmanship in Glossier NYC is no exception.
Interactive Elements:
- As with all of their locations, Glossier NYC is a place for their community to come in and try and test products. Because this is a central, communal space, they took inspiration from long dining tables, placing two 15-foot-long tables in the main area for guests to find, swatch, feel, and use their products. Their product testing system, a special wet bar room for trying their skincare products, and specialized beauty appointments where Editors can use their expertise mean their guests can create a personalized experience.
- As guests continue to explore the space, they will see hidden touches that reference architectural and design motifs found in the New York City Subway. From barrel-vaulted ceilings to large mosaic-tile murals done by the same artist whose work can be found in many of the city’s stations, these details fuse the interior, residential design approach with details you find in day traveling through NYC. A secret “You Look Good.” room in the back of the store has a larger-than-life Glossier mural (featuring Glossier You Solid and Generation G) and a wooden bench inspired by subway platform seating.
Gift Shop:
- They have also devoted a special “gift shop” where customers can find their full line of merch usually exclusively found at respective Glossier locations. And for a city whose signature dress code is all black, the exclusive store merchandise for Glossier NYC is a Black Embroidered Hoodie. Soft and fleecy, with their logo on the chest, it has a pocket on the front and is perfect for any NYC wardrobe.
- At all of their retail locations, they partner with area non-profits whose work directly impacts the local community. So they’re proud to announce that for each Glossier NYC Embroidered Hoodie sold at Glossier NYC, they’ll be donating $5 to the Sadie Nash Leadership Project, whose mission is to strengthen, empower, and equip young women and gender-expansive youth of color as agents for change in their lives and in the world.
