Returning to Self A Black History Month Culmination

Join Governors Island for a day of work­shops, per­for­mances, and cel­e­bra­tions for all ages that will cre­ate com­mu­ni­ty and ele­vate Black voic­es.

Through this day-long event, they will work togeth­er to cre­ate a safe and nur­tur­ing space for self-care and reflec­tion where par­tic­i­pants can tune in to their needs, hon­or their feel­ings, and begin to return to themselves.

Fea­tur­ing:

  • Breath­work led by Con­ver­sa­tions with Black Women
  • Guid­ed medi­a­tions with A Safe Space
  • Jew­el­ry mak­ing work­shops with Jam + Rico
  • Affir­ma­tion art with Red Hook Art Project
  • Andoche Louba­ki​’s Mfouam­bi­la Kon­go and Angel Kaba​’s Afro’ Dance New York, in part­ner­ship with DuYe Moves
  • DJ sets curat­ed by Half Moon BK fea­tur­ing Den­nis Free, DJ Will Gates, and Mondai
  • Food from Black-owned businesses
  • Pho­to wall by Gov­er­nors Island Nature
  • Pre­sent­ed by the Trust for Gov­er­nors Island in part­ner­ship with A Safe Space. Event space donat­ed by Low­er Man­hat­tan Cul­tur­al Council.
