Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival 2021

In Celebration of the “Year of the Ox” the 2021 Annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in New York is back. The free multicultural festival and sporting event, will be scaled down this year.

HKDBF-NY plans to keep up the age old tradition of Dragon Boat Racing. Each, colorfully painted boat with Dragon head at the front and Dragon tail at the rear are piloted by up to 20 crewmen, including 18 paddlers, a drummer and steers person. This year they will be observing all covid protocols so racing teams size will be reduced.

This year will also have presentations on the Main Stage of traditional Chinese arts, from the Chinese Music Ensemble of New York, Dance China NY from the New York Chinese Cultural Center, martial arts demonstrations by the ever popular Shaolin Monks and a steel drum performance from the CASYM Steel Orchestra. Master storyteller Jonathan Kruk also joins again.

This year in lieu of the traditional International food court, there will be several food trucks. Booths staffed by sponsors of the event, and a number of community-based organizations will participate to help make for a unique, action packed, multi-cultural, New York event.

 The opening ceremony will take place at noon, and racing starts at 9:00 am.  Rain or shine.
