Celebrate Car-Free Earth Day, an annual car-free event hosted by NYC DOT.
Programming will be presented at signature and partner-produced locations citywide, promoting activism and education surrounding climate change, sustainability, and other relevant topics. The event also marks the official start to NYC’s Open Streets and Public Space Programming season.
Car-Free Earth Day will include car-free streets and plazas across the five boroughs, with locations featuring public art or community programming.

Free Citi Bike Rides on Car-Free Earth Day
Through the support of Lyft, Citi Bike will offer free unlimited 30-minute rides on a classic Citi Bike on Car-Free Earth Day for 24 hours. All riders may take advantage of the offer. Public Art Installations at Car-Free Earth Day
NYC DOT commissioned five artists to provide temporary, environmentally focused artworks along certain routes through the NYC DOT Art program.

Flatiron Nomad Car-Free Earth Day
Join Flatiron NoMad Partnership on the Flatiron South Plaza as they host family-friendly interactive programming in celebration of Car-Free Earth Day. Engaging activities will include a small box art activation led by a local artist and architect, ping pong tables from SPIN, corn hole, and Connect Four!
Downtown Brooklyn Car-Free Earth Day
Join us for Earth-friendly and car-free activities including music, fashion, bike lessons, and more. Albee Square West will be closed to traffic, so bring your bikes or roller skates and enjoy activities and music at Albee Square.
Car Free Earth Day & Scavenger Hunt in MSP
The American Society of Landscape Architects, New York Chapter (ASLA-NY) is teaming up with Madison Square Park Conservancy, Local Nature Lab, Pleasant Run Nursery, and Kompan to create a pop-up park, outdoor exhibit, and learning lab to engage the community and demonstrate how landscape architecture shapes our environment. The pop-up park and exhibit will be located in Flatiron Plaza near 23rd Street, Manhattan. In Madison Square Park, you can take part in a fun scavenger hunt.
34th Street Car Free Earth Day Hoop Jam
In celebration of Car-free Earth Day, 34th Street Partnership welcomes our summer partners, Big Apple Hooping, to lead a hoop jam for all ages in Greeley Square Plaza.
