The Meatpacking District + ARTNOIR, a female-majority, minority-owned nonprofit, presents an exciting three-month, five-part program From A Place, Of A Place – an immersive series that uses art and performance to engage neighbors and visitors in celebrating Black culture.
The five-part series will kick-off with a large-scale sculpture titled WHENEVER/WHEREVER WE CAN by artist, Olalekan Jeyifous curated by Oshun Layne, gallery exhibition The Meeting Point curated by Danny Baez of ARTNOIR and REGULARNORMAL, followed by a multi-sensory live performance series Visions In Motion Directed by Dario Calmese, and a curated Guide to the Meatpacking District that will shine a light on Black voices and businesses in the neighborhood.
From A Place, Of A Place Events
The series will uncover narratives of Black culture, commerce, and community, imagining the neighborhood’s future as a forum for uplifting diverse and impactful voices. The multi-dimensional series across the Meatpacking District will include numerous art installations, live performances, and community activities that will reflect the diverse makeup of the neighborhood’s visitors and inhabitants through an immersive experience that centers Black stories.
Each aspect of the programming will share a common theme of looking future- forward while embodying four distinct pillars: Gathering galvanizes possibility, Imagination expands identities, Liberation unlocks possibilities, and Borders define history.
