The New York Philharmonic Bandwagon 2

The New York Philharmonic is deepening their connection with communities across their hometown with NY Phil Bandwagon 2, four weekend-long festivals across New York City. With a mobile, state-of-the-art shipping container as a stage, the New York Philharmonic will partner with six organizations and more than 100 artists to present 39 performances, which span artistic disciplines from reggae, jazz, and opera, to dance, poetry, theater, film, and visual art. Performances are free and open to the public.

NY Phil Bandwagon 2 last weekend (May 28th-30th) will be at St. Albans Park in Queens (Merrick Blvd at Sayres Ave). The three-day festival was programmed in collaboration with Bandwagon 2 partners A Better Jamaica and Flushing Town Hall. The lineup includes:

  • James Lovell and The Afri-Garifuna Music Ambassadors (JLAMA) alongside a string quartet of New York Philharmonic musicians
  • PUBLIQuartet
  • The Bartlett Contemporaries
  • The Antoinette Montague Experience with tap dancer AC Lincoln
  • Soprano Laquita Mitchell with members of The Harlem Chamber Players and a string quartet of Philharmonic musicians
  • Dancers and musicians from Queensboro Dance Festival, curated by Karesia Batan, alongside Philharmonic musicians performing the World Premieres of two works by Philharmonic bassist David J. Grossman.
  • Afro-Colombian ensemble Grupo Rebolu
  • World Premieres of three works by participants in the New York Philharmonic Very Young Composers Program — Gavin Luengthada (age 11), Paulino Castro (age 16), and Dalya Shaman (age 13)

In addition, Queens Public Library’s Mobile Library will be onsite on Friday, May 28.
