The People’s Platform: Rashid Johnson’s Red Stage on Astor Place

The South Plaza of Astor Place, Red Stage — a public stage and arena — invites you to reclaim space through performance and experimentation.

In addition to The People’s Platform, the stage will also be brought to life through Creative Time-organized programs and artist-curated takeovers including performances by musician Jason Moran and artist Charlotte Brathwaite; karaoke night with C. Spencer Yeh; civic action and education with artist collective For Freedoms; and a pride celebration with New York Live Arts.

Calling all artists, organizers, community-builders, makers, and passersby to take the stage at Creative Time and Rashid Johnson’s Red Stage! You might remember Rashid as being one of the artists behind the Art and Mourning in America exhibit at the New Museum.
