New York City finally received its sweet fix when the much buzzed Candytopia, an interactive playground celebrating all that is candy, opened up in early August for an advanced press preview and offered NYC Plugged most of what we would have expected from the one-of-a-kind sensory overload.

Packed into the Manhattan Mall, Candytopia let visitors in on the freedom to work their way around more than a dozen of unique rooms and art installations that were filled with sugary goodness — literally and figuratively. Not only did the rooms include free candy samples that partially justified the admission fee, but the popular attraction made sure to follow up the wide success of its Los Angeles and Santa Monica counterparts with equally appetizing experiences.

With dashes of pop culture thrown into the mix, the new city walk-through included overly charismatic staff members, famed portraits of the Mona Lisa and Cardi B (made out of candy) and photo opps perfect for your visit. Some were interactive. some were meant to be captured from afar. It was Hasbro Candy Land IRL. Unfortunately, the exhibit suffered from Manhattan’s usual downfalls: a lack of circulation and traffic flow. If you can bypass the logistics, the interaction does what it’s supposed to do. We simply suggest finding a time slot that doesn’t fall smack dab in the middle of an open Saturday afternoon.

After all, the merits hold up as the outrageous interactive Los Angeles playground has been visited by a string of celebrities, including Sean Combs, Drew Barrymore, Gwyneth Paltrow, Josh Duhamel, Christina Aguilera, James Corden, Wiz Khalifa, Hilary Duff and Alessandra Ambrosio.

Candytopia finds its best moments when there’s a singular focus, so we suggest that you take your time to research the installations and plot your visit accordingly. Once you find the flow of the attraction, it’s a full blown candy takeover that will surely leave your sweet tooth satisfied.

Candytopia is currently open and available for ticket purchasing.
