#SavorTheSummer
Leading up to the end of August, and what some may call the end of Summer, we attended Thrillist‘s Savor the Summer Event; an American Grilling Competition hosted at Hill Country Barbecue Market.
The first thing that comes to mind when we think of Summer is, sipping cocktails on NYC’s best rooftops, go to summer outfits and the sometimes never ending barbecue season. Most of us hate the thought of the summer soon coming to an end, so Thrillist promised us one last cookout to soak up every last drop, while savoring every last bite of Summer.
During the festivities, we tasted and judged the best bites from 10 local NYC eateries. In good faith we had to try them all of course, so we came prepared with our elastic waisted pants and big appetites, ready for a good time! Out of all the vendors, we especially enjoyed Clinton Halls’ Famous Double Smashed Burger, which was not surprisingly, crowned the winner. We also devoured our other top favorites which included the 14-hour smoked beef brisket from Mable’s Smokehouse, the smoked pork ribs served with a Yukon golden potato salad from Morgan’s Brooklyn Barbecue, which were so tender that they fell right off the bone (we lost count of how many ribs we had). The list goes on to, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que’s pulled pork sliders with pickles, Meatball Shop’s beef meatballs with classic tomato sauce, and Whitmans’ East Villi Cheesesteak; their cheesesteak was equally as good the ones we get in Philly.
No authentic BBQ would be complete without something to wash it down with. The Samuel Adams lounge came to our rescue serving a refreshing assortment of beers, games and a live bluegrass band to keep us jamming throughout the night. Other libations included that from Federalist Wines and pick-me-up espressos from Cafe Bustelo, which helped us get past of our food comas.
We left with our bellies content and no complaints, except that Summer is UNOFFICIALLY over, but our memories and good times will last us all year round. This is just one of the many Thrillist events we have attended this year, and they never let us down. If you are like us and are not quite ready to let go of summer yet, relive one our best summer days in our previous post: Thrillist Delivers the Best Day of Your Life!
