Sunshine and heatwaves are two of the summer’s inevitable visitors. The sun, while welcome in comparison to rain and snow, can make it impossible to be outdoors, without something to cool you down. When the hot weather beckons, ice cream is one of the best summertime vices. This summer brought a whole lotta new players to the ice cream arena. Because, while some things are inevitable, sometimes it’s fun to welcome the innovative.

In the spirit of sharing, here are some newer ice creams to get your hands on while the weather still gives us an excuse.

1. Ben and Jerry’s Cookie Dough Cores, Pint Slices and Non-Dairy Flavors

Ben and Jerry’s is churning out scoops by the barrel. Their Cookie Dough Core flavors include Chocolate Chip , Sweet Like Sugar, and Wake and No Bake. After trying just one (courtesy of Ben & Jerry’s generous gifting), I can guarantee I’ll be going back to the store to buy and try the others flavors.

They also offer Non-Dairy options now, for those who prefer less lactose, that comes in Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Caramel Cluster, and pint slices, including Candy Bar Pie and AmazeMint. I for one hope they turn more flavors into these easy to travel compact bars!

2. Oatly

Oatly is a new kid on the block, but that doesn’t make it any less impressive. Capitalizing on the Oat Milk trend, Oatly created an Oat Milk-based ice cream—more for lactose haters to love. They are free of dairy, gluten, nuts, or soy and also certified vegan and kosher.

They just launched at the end of June in select small NYC grocery retailers, and in July on FreshDirect. They will be available in national retailers including Whole Foods this fall (though you may be able to find them in NYC Whole Foods sooner).

3. Häagen Daz Spirits

Another bandwagon creation, Häagen Daz has some new boozy ice cream flavors that their frequent fans will eat right up—pun intended.

Häagen Daz Spirits come in pint flavors, including Amaretto Black Cherry Almond, Bourbon Praline Pecan, Bourbon Vanilla Bean Truffle, Irish Cream Brownie, Rum Tres Leches, and Stout Chocolate Pretzel Crunch. They’ve also got their own bar flavor: Irish Cream Cookie Squares. For those wanting to start their night with something sweet instead of ending it, these will definitely get the party started right.

4. Talenti’s Gelato Layers

Ever heard of Jars by Dani? Well, this is essentially Jars by Talenti. Talenti is raising the bar on its ever-popular gelato by adding layers of cookie, brownie, and more. Talenti’s Gelato Layers come in Peanut Butter Vanilla Fudge, Salted Caramel Truffle, Vanilla Fudge Cookie, Mint Fudge Cookie, Dark Chocolate Cherry, Chocolate Cherry Cheesecake and Black Raspberry Vanilla Parfait.

5. Scoops Ahoy! Flavors by Baskin Robbins

For those of you who haven’t heard, Strangers Things and Baskin Robbins collaborated this summer with special by-the-pint only flavors, specifically based on the show’s Scoops Ahoy shop at the mall. Flavors include USS Butterscotch, Praline Portal, Mind Flayer Mint, and others. Baskin Robbins were serving up various flavors throughout the month of July, but you can currently pick up a pint at Target Locations. If it tastes anything like it looks, I can’t wait to grab some myself!
