Brooklyn based artist Garrett Morin takes his cues from horror and metal — fantasy-based genres through which we explore death, violence and life’s “uglier” subjects.
With You Have Been Expected and Are Welcome in My Castle Morin presents two new bodies of work, a collection of drawings and works in plaster. Each combine words and images both common and fantastic, cast together to suggest murky stories of anxiety, loss and affliction. Unlike the often grotesque depictions associated with horror’s exaggerated reflections of human extremity, Morin’s lens offers a more palatable journey down the lefthand path; an attempt to seduce those who would not otherwise travel down dark corridors. A powdery representation, perhaps, is the most nightmarish.
The exhibition will be on view October 3rd through October 31st.
