A spinoff of the East Village cult-favorite Baker’s Pizza, the first-ever NYC hybrid slice joint & coffee shop (from under-30 owner Jordan Baker) has recently opened (8/21) and brings breakfast slices into the spotlight, pairing specialty egg-centric pies with freshly-brewed Stumptown coffee, cold brew and espresso, and locally-sourced pastries from purveyors like Underwest Donuts.

Led by Jordan’s brother Jeremy Baker and executive chef Jamie Cacace, a Bronx native from a family lineage of legendary New York pizza makers, the menu at Baker’s uses premium ingredients in thoughtful and innovative combinations, melding old-school with new.

Unlike the original Baker’s, the new Hell’s Kitchen location will feature breakfast pies (served from 8am to 11pm, 7 days a week) that will rotate seasonally and include a new special each month.

Opening breakfast pizzas include:
The Classic with speck, egg, cheddar, chives & black pepper
Southwest with mushrooms, onion, green pepper, scrambled egg, cheddar and housemade salsa fresca
Benedict featuring over-easy eggs, Canadian bacon, hollandaise sauce and scallion

Stumptown coffee, cold brew and espresso from the shop’s state-of-the-art espresso machine is available in a variety of classic barista drinks, and a loyalty program offers regulars unlimited cold brew coffee for $39 a month (through Folks).

Lunch and dinner pizzas include offerings like a Tartufo with sauteed mushrooms, fresh herbed ricotta, white truffle oil & fresh basil; Broccoli Rabe (inspired by chef Jamie’s grandmother’s recipe) with speck, prosciutto, roasted red pepper and shredded parmesan; and the Baker’s, the eponymous slice with slow-caramelized onion, fresh herbed ricotta and house-made pork sausage. To round out the offerings, sides include a Polenta Fries with marinara or labneh; Corn Nuggets with garlic aioli; Garlic Knots; and Zeppolis.

Designed by Jordan and designer Julie Long, the space uses found objects and favorites from Jordan’s personal collection, and features irreverent artwork and modern touches such as a custom-made piece from Portland, OR artist Taj Bourgeois; and a giant, framed print of the pizza-themed “Last Supper” scene from Inherent Vice. The white marble countertop, white and pink neon signs, and white tile floor add a touch of contemporary luxury and Instagram-worthy visuals to the causal slice joint.
