National Margarita Day Cocktail Kit
Credit: NYC Plugged

ICYMI, last week was National Margarita Day and we celebrated the only we knew how, by getting together with The Bowery Collective and Patrón Tequila for a virtual National Margarita Day experience. We received our very own kit, complete with the ingredients and tools to craft a few variations of our favorite cocktail.

The Bowery Collective x Patrón Tequila collab workshop went down on a Monday night, and what’s great is that ticket proceeds went to Another Round Another Rally, a nonprofit financial resource for the hospitality industry. They provide reimbursement grants and immersive educational scholarships to further the education of underrepresented voices in the community and supply emergency assistance to those employed in restaurants, bars, and hotels who have fallen on unexpected hardship.

I received my kit two days after ordering it and for $60 the kit is well worth the full experience and items that it comes with. If you are a regular NYC Plugged reader or part of our IT LIST we also had an exclusive promo for you to use towards your kit. Be sure to subscribe here, so you don’t miss the next one!

So you’re probably wondering what goodies were in the kit. We received 2 oz samples of Patrón Silver, Reposado, Añejo, and Citronage, a Patrón mini shaker, infamous bottle-shaped juicer, and jigger, which I found myself using to shake up a cocktail last weekend, mixers, syrups, citrus, salts, and dehydrated garnishes. I threw the box in my fridge to keep everything extra fresh. Essentially we had EVERYTHING needed to whip up our margaritas, so there was no need to go out and purchase any additional items. There were also step-by-step directions for each cocktail included in this I dare say ultimate margarita kit!

This being my first VIRTUAL cocktail class, I was super excited to get started and shake up a few tasty margaritas. Once I picked out my glassware for each cocktail, I sat not so patiently before the class got started. Led by mixologists Alli Torres, of Freehold Miami (there is Brooklyn version as well), and AJ Billapando, of Socal Cantina in Miami, over 70 of us measured, shook, and poured each cocktail, and Alli and AJ made sure our margaritas came out top-notch. I must say, I felt pretty lavish sipping from my salt-rimmed martini glass, next time I’ll remember to throw on something a little more fitting. In Zoom call fashion, a fancier top at least.

The featured margaritas were the Patrón Classic, Watermelon Basil, and Spicy Pineapple. Take note of the super simple recipes below if you would like to make these at home yourself.

🍸PATRÓN CLASSIC MARGARITA
1.5 oz Patrón Silver
1oz Patrón Citronge Orange
.75oz Fresh Lime Juice
.25 oz Simple Syrup
Garnish: Dehydrated Lime Wheel
Kosher Salt Optional
Now you know you can’t beat the OGs, this classic lime margarita came out just like the ones I usually enjoy at a bar or restaurant, lime garnish and all.
🍉PATRÓN WATERMELON BASIL MARGARITA
1.5 oz Patrón Reposado
1oz Fresh Watermelon Juice
1oz Fresh Lime Juice
.5 oz Agave Nectar
3 Basil Leaves
Garnish: Basil Leaf
Excellent for warmer weather, the watermelon basil margarita is an ideal summer cocktail. The real question is, frozen or on the rocks?
🍍PATRÓN SPICY PINEAPPLE MARGARITA
1.5 oz Patrón Añejo
.25 oz Patrón Citrónge Orange
.75 oz Fresh Pineapple Juice
.5 oz Fresh Lime Juice
3-4 Dashes Habanero Bitters
Garnish: Dried Pineapple Ring
Tajin Salt Optional
The perfect cocktail to finish the class off with, this spicy pineapple margarita had just the right amount of kick, and the tajin salt rim was pretty fun to create as well.

Overall, from the curated kit to the mixologist-led workshop, Bowery Collective’s cocktail classes are definitely a yes in my book. So much so, that I am already looking forward to the next big one, which will fall on another popular cocktail holiday! As you might or might not know, The Bowery Collective is keen on creating meaningful experiences and introducing people to premium spirits, the makers and creators behind them, and those working in the industry. Be it their pre-COVID in-person events like one of our favorites, Whiskey Washback or Arte Agave, an event that blends fine agave spirits, with Latin arts and entertainment. The latter MAY also be making a return this fall! You can keep stay up to date through their Instagram page.

To pivot with the times, they have turned to virtual cocktail classes which you can take part in through their larger cocktail workshops or their Cocktail Kits of the Moment which features curated spirits, fresh ingredients, and step-by-step instructions all delivered to your doorstep. This can be used for a private cocktail-making session at home, or for hosting your very own virtual cocktail party with friends or family! They currently have ‘Agave Aficionado’ and ‘Bourbon Trail’ kits available. Their Bespoke By Bowery Collective experience is also a great choice for tasting spirits with your team, clients, or potential customers, which are led by a brand professional. Just invite your guests and they do the rest. That being said, will we see you at the next one?!
