New Yorkers will get a taste of the city’s future artisanal food scene at City Flavors – A Night of Local Bites, where 20 emerging food entrepreneurs will debut their savory treats, vegan temptations, soul food oeuvres and sinful desserts on the High Line.
They are all residents of New York public housing, who have segued cooking in their NYCHA building kitchens into burgeoning businesses after graduating from Food Business Pathways (FBP) program, which equipped them with the tools to launch their food enterprises.
For City Flavors, their first high profile event, the entrepreneurs are being mentored by well-known chefs and food experts, who will support them at their stations. Mentors include: Clark Wolf, specialty food expert, author, TV and radio host; Bill Telepan, executive chef of Oceana; Andrew Tarlow, owner of Diner, Marlow & Sons, Reynard, Roman’s, and Achilles Heel; Ariane Daguin, chef and founder of D’Artagnan; James Kent, former executive chef of Nomad; and Saul Bolton, executive chef of The Norm. An array of beer, wine, vodka, soda, water and teas will complement the entrepreneurs’ intriguing dishes.
The event is a fundraiser for a source of capital for FPB graduate NYCHA residents to start and grow their food businesses.
