City of Water Day—now in its eleventh year—is a free annual festival organized by the Waterfront Alliance to get people to, on, and in New York Harbor and its surrounding waterways.

This year’s main festival—presented by The Howard Hughes Corporation—will take place in the Seaport District, Pier 17, in Lower Manhattan. Attendees will experience the region’s largest harbor festival right where the great city we know today got its start! Look for the ship masts and nautical flags, and imagine the days of sailmakers and stevedores, when South Street was known as the Street of Ships. Today, our historic seaport is ready to welcome and connect New Yorkers and visitors alike to the waterfront and all it has to offer. This free waterfront festival will appeal to both kids and kids at heart with a full day of activities.

In addition, dozens of community groups and organizations will host their own City of Water Day In Your Neighborhood events in all five boroughs, Yonkers, and New Jersey in a grassroots movement to fully unlock access to waterfronts around the region. More than half of waterfront districts in New York City have only one or, worse, no places for people to touch the water. As we aspire to a healthy, accessible, and resilient harbor, we still have work to do!
