If you’re a part of our Instagram community, then you’ve probably seen us talk about the Markk app in our stories and posts. Markk is a fun, visual way to rate local businesses in real-time and get rewarded! When we say ratings, we don’t mean long drawn out paragraphs about what you liked, or didn’t like. These ratings are all based on photos and videos, which are a lot more exciting to refer to when discovering new places. Markk’s major cities are LA and NYC, but it can be used absolutely anywhere!
The rating process is as simple as 1, 2, 3.
1- Snap a photo or video of the location you are at, this can be a restaurant, deli, bar, cafe, gym, park, shopping mall, anywhere really!
2- Rate it Dope, Okay, or Nope at the moment (or within 6 hours). No star ratings or long text necessary.
3- Add some optional description text and/or stickers, which are always fun! Markk ratings also appear on the home screen for only 24 hours, so you can find places through recent reviews, not reviews from 2015.

Markk also shines a light on local businesses, with new reviews filling the feed every day. Earn
You earn points in two ways, through ratings or referrals.
Rate a place by uploading a photo or video from your location and earn 10 points. If your the first Markker to rate a place, you get an extra 10 discover bonus points. If you maintain a weekly streak by rating at least two places in a week, you can get 100 bonus points every 2 weeks!
A referral happens when someone else swipes up ‘Going’ on your rating, then rates the same place. When a referral is accepted (that means someone marks ‘Going’ on your rating) you earn 2 points. When the referral is completed, which happens when someone marks ‘Going’ on your rating and then rates the same place within 24 hours, you earn 20 points. If it’s after 24 hours, then you earn 10 points. When YOU rate from your ‘Going’ list, which is when you markk Going on a rating and then rate the same place, you earn 1 point when you markk going, 15 points if your rating is within 24 hours, and 5 points if it’s after.
All of the places you mark Going are saved in your profile so you have a handy list of places to check out. It’s like bookmarking that pays.
What is a Guru?
As you rack up points, you go up in Guru level, from level 1, which is 10 referrals and 500 points, all the way to level 10, 350 referrals and 50,000 points. 100 Markk points equal to $1 USD, so you can in reality earn up to $750! Guru’s earn points up to 2X faster and unlock up to 50K bonus points as they go up in levels. Once you become a guru, you also gain access to exclusive events, and inside access to Markk, which is on hold for now, with the pandemic. Top Gurus get featured on the app’s home screen, and you can proudly display your badge on your profile. Your profile will also show your favorite spots how much business you’re driving them!
Rewards
Now that you’ve accumulated your Markk points, it’s time to cash them in! Novice Markker Rewards, which is 1,000 – 7,500 points, can be redeemed for $5-$35, and Intermediate Markker Rewards (10,000 – 40,000 points) for $100-$400. Rewards go all the way up to the Ultimate Reward of $20K! There are other fun opportunities Markk creates for you to earn points, like daily cash giveaways, and ‘The Best Of’ challenges.
