Bored in the house? If you recognize this phrase, it means that you have jumped on the Tiktok bandwagon, like it or not. Since we can’t leave our homes, for the time being, many of us have been turning, twisting, stomping, and bopping to Tiktok for some entertainment. One viral video that has become a trend is centered around a whipped coffee drink, which for some clarity, has 1.2 billion (#whippedcoffee) uses on TikTok. One reason behind its popularity might have to do with its neat cafe drink quality, which you can make right from the comfort of your kitchen.

PIN FOR LATER!

Whipped Coffee

The drink we are talking about is Dalgona Coffee, originating from South Korea. Originally, Dalgona is a sugary sponge candy, that is the same color as the coffee, hence its name. The candy was a popular street snack in the 1980’s, and the coffee drink itself started blowing up on YouTube, thanks to its satisfying aesthetic, before being featured on Tiktok. Many users have cited that it is similar to coffees they drink in their culture. In Greece it is a popular frappe, in Pakistan, it is called Beaten Coffee, in Cuba it is known as Café Cubano con Espumita, and in India, it is referred to as Phenti Hui.

The best thing about this recipe is that you only need 4 ingredients! If you have instant coffee, sugar, hot water, and milk in your pantry, then you’re all set! Start off by measuring two tablespoons of any brand of instant coffee, two tablespoons of sugar, and two tablespoons of hot water. Whisk all three together until it starts to peak, becoming light brown and fluffy. It takes some time to get the right consistency, so I would recommend some music while you mix, to take your mind off the time!

Everything started to come together, then I realized that it wasn’t enough for my taste. I eyeballed it and added equal amounts of the ingredients until my heart was content. It took me about 25 minutes to mix everything in, but using an electric mixer or milk frother is ALOT faster. Once you are satisfied with the end product, add ice, then milk to a cute glass of your choosing, and top with dollops of your coffee mixture. I am very impatient, so it did feel like forever, and I almost gave up several times. It’s a good thing I stuck with it because the final result was delicious!

Even celebrities are getting into the trend! Chelsea Peretti, comedian, and Brooklyn 99 cast member, posted to her Instagram, a creation she ‘whipped up’ at home. She added it was definitely worth the hype. Want to see the process in action? Here’s a favorite that we came across on Tiktok, by @imhannahcho.

This trend is also a good idea for those looking for creative things to do at home. The finished product is definitely adorable enough to make it on your Instafeed or TikTok Channel! So what will you do once you have perfected this drink? Luckily, we have put together a list of other aesthetically pleasing coffee drinks you can make at home. As a few recipes also call for cold-brewed coffee, you can take it up a notch and make it yourself using this recipe, if you have whole beans, a coffee grinder, and few other ingredients on hand.  We recommend Bean Hoppers 100% Arabica beans, which are processed by hot air roasting, resulting in a coffee that is cleaner, smoother, and more consistent!

Thai Iced Coffee

Thai Iced Coffee is a deliciously sweet drink that only needs three ingredients. Start by grabbing your favorite (or whatever you have on hand quite frankly) cold brew coffee. Then add condensed milk, almond extract, and the optional cardamom. Place it all in a nice glass with a lot of ice, and voila!

Iced Coffee Soda

Craving something fizzy? Iced Coffee Soda is another simple recipe, made with prepared coffee or espresso, simple syrup, club soda or sparkling water and you guessed it, ice!

Since we’re going in the thirst-quenching direction, and as the weather starts to heat up, why not add in some warm weather favorites? Lemonade and vanilla ice cream anyone? Not at the same time of course.

By way of Sweden, this drink is just as refreshing as it sounds. 5 ingredients: cold brew coffee, sugar, water, lemons and mint leaves. This brew just screams summertime lovin’. The recipe can be found here.

Affogato

We’re making this even easier with this affogato recipe, from you guessed it Italy.  More of a dessert than a drink, it only uses 2 ingredients! More if you want to get nasty with the toppings, from caramel sauce to crushed biscotti. Feeling basic? Vanilla ice cream topped with espresso or strong brewed coffee seals the deal.

Mocha Frappuccino

You’ve probably downed a few of this year-round icy favorite. We’ll throw it in for good measure.

If you are craving Starbucks but don’t want to leave your house (or spend a ton of money on a drink), you can make a Mocha Frappuccino by adding milk, sugar, vanilla extract, coffee, and chocolate sauce into a blender. Top it off with whip cream and you have the popular delightful creation.

Looking for some adult beverages? Here are two of our picks. One for people who like hot drinks in warm weather, and one without dairy for the lactose-intolerant folks.

Irish Iced Coffee

This Irish classic combines coffee (strong and hot!), Irish whiskey, brown sugar, and whipped heavy cream. To execute this correctly, be sure to add the ingredients in the order stated. Don’t see why you can’t make this iced as well.

Siciliano

This beverage is the closest to something you would get from a cocktail bar and uses a few more ingredients than our previous drinks. Sweet vermouth, amaro, cold-brew coffee, simple syrup, club soda and an orange wheel for garnish.
