During the NYCWFF (New York City Wine & Food Festival) earlier this month, we got the chance to attend the opening night event: Tacos & Tequila Presented by Tequila Cazadores, and hosted by Chef Aarón Sánchez. When it comes to events sticking to the title, NYCWFF went above and beyond, as there was no shortage of either, even into the wee hours of the morning.

Kicking off at Union West Events, and on the later side of the day, starting at 10pm and going until 1am, it was prime time to engulf all the tacos and tequila your mind, body and soul was able to take.

When talking about tequila, the mention of tacos are not too far away, and vise versa. Throughout the night, we had to opportunity to make our own cocktails, I chose hibiscus juice as my base liquid, or have one shaken up for us, both courtesy of Tequila Cazadores. Tacos and their festive counterparts were served by over 15 top national city restaurants, and it felt like nothing went to waste. DJ Danny Stern also spun a DJ set which kept us moving all night!

What brought the night full circle, was that it was hosted by Chef Aarón Sánchez, known as a taco-aficionado, having published many cookbooks, and with a few awards under his belt.

There were many taco options to choose from, but a few tables stood out to me, aka the ones I went back to for seconds or thirds. The Bacon Guac from Mohegan Sun, was so good, the saltiness and savoriness of the bacon was the perfect addition. I love seafood so the Lobster Tacos from Johnny Sanchez and Bodega Taqueria y Tequila were prepared differently, but equally delicious. The Thailand Inspired Tacos from Tac n Roll located here in the city, were tasty, but I had to take out a few jalapenos, as they were super fresh aka spicy. Tac n Roll’s concept is actually pretty cool, see what I mean here! Lastly the Churro Waffle with Horchata Ice Cream from Grace Street Cafe, was a perfectly sweet combination. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year already!
