Refinery29 and Bonobos are coming together on International Women’s Day 2019 to empower men and women to Shape their Allyship.

For the entire day on Friday, March 8th, the Bonobos flagship store in New York City will be transformed into a haven for Allyship, giving women with a vision the opportunity to align with allies across industries. Panels, workshops, and presentations will tackle important topics ranging from allyship in the workplace to diversity in the fashion industry. And we’ll wrap out the inspirational day with a cocktail celebration – complete with a celebrity appearance, light bites, live music and a chance to network.

Kahlana will speak to her experience of being one of very few women of color in her industry and how the majority (white male top executives/designers, etc), can support and advocate for the minority in order to truly see change.

WHY CAN’T YOU FUND ME?
ALEXANDRA FRIEDMAN, CO-FOUNDER OF LOLA
Fact: Women get less than 5 percent of VC funds. In this discussion, Alex Friedman will share the founding story of LOLA – the first lifelong brand for reproductive health – and advice for other female entrepreneurs on how to tip the odds in their favor while pitching to a room of VCs – an audience that’s typically comprised mostly of men.

THE GENDER GAP IN MUSIC

Pakistani-American sisters Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf, aka Krewella, are prominent electronic dance music DJs who speak openly about the gender gap in the industry, even incorporating it into their lyrics. In this discussion, they will reveal the struggles of being female in a male-dominated industry and how allyship in the music industry benefits everyone.
