New kid on the block, Randall’s Barbeque invited us for a taste of their curated selection of pickleback shots, and being a pickle lover, I jumped at the opportunity. The bar/barbecue joint opened right next door to The Pickle Guys in the LES,  and they certainly know how to leverage their location to create something akin to magic (we would know, as we visited The Cauldron just a few weeks ago).

Randall’s, which opened a little under 2 months ago, has quickly made a name for itself as a neighborhood hotspot and it’s easy to see why. The curated drink menu is like one you’d find at a primary bar, and their food menu boasts all of your favorite barbeque picks, even including some options for your vegetarian friends who you’d normally have to leave behind.

We’re talking wings, ribs, brisket and even some “out there” options like 5 spice duck and chopped Greek lamb shoulder.

But we arrived, belly’s full, for another reason—pickleback shots!

Randall’s Barbeque offers 6 options, including:

  • Pickled Piña – Tequila chased with jalapeno and pineapple juice

  • Mulberry St – Whiskey and amaro chased with peperoncino juice

  • Baller – Hennessy and champagne chased with pickled apple juice

  • Hester St – Chilled vodka with pickled beet and dill

  • Randall – Bacon-infused whiskey chased with slaw ‘liquor’

  • Bootlegger – Overproof rum chased with pickled maraschino cherry

The shots are made in collaboration with the already popular New York staple, The Pickle Guys, resident geniuses on all things pickle, including pickled onions, and even pineapple. During Happy Hour (5-7pm & 10-close), these shots are only $6! Other Happy Hour deals include: Beer + Shot Combos ($6), Foster’s Oil Cans ($7), Hoftbrau Steins ($11), and Dollar-Off Drafts.

The crowd is chill, the staff is incredibly pleasant and helpful, and the food speaks for itself. You know you’re going to the LES sometime soon, so make a night of it and get started here. You won’t be sorry.
