We visited Toro Loco, a Mexican Restaurant in the Financial District, back in May when they first opened (read more on that here) and we just knew we had to go back to experience their Saturday Mezcal Brunch.
On weekends, from 2-6pm, the restaurant hosts a pumping Mezcal Brunch Party, where you can enjoy two hours of UNLIMITED share plates and up to five signature brunch cocktails. For cocktails, you can choose from a Mezcal Mule, Traditional or Frozen Margarita, Bloody Maria (aka Mary), Mimosa or Michelada (a Mexican beer based cocktail), all the while enjoying a burlesque show (one my favorite types of entertainment) by Lydia Vengeance
and crew and sometimes a live Sax performance by Alex (@livesax). There are so many brunch options out in the NYC, but very few give you a show as well.
As for the menu, Toro Loco has fused Mexican traditions with American brunch featuring dishes like Huevos Rancheros, Tacos de Huevos, and Sopes Benedict Toro Loco (poached egg, corn masa cakes, carnitas, poblano peppers, hollandaise). The dishes had your pretty your normal Mexican eats flare, but my personal favorite was the poached egg tacos.
Sides include Rice & Beans, Chips and Salsa and Elote (Grilled Mexican Street Corn). You can’t forget dessert as Toro Loco finishes off well with Pan Dulce, pretty much a French toast and Churros con Chocolate, so delicious! Would you believe me is I said all of this was only $40/person?! More on the brunch menu here!
As you can see the food and drank is plentiful, so I definitely recommend bringing the squad to help devour all the goods. The space also has two levels, but the real party is downstairs, so if you book a Brunch here, be sure to ask for a spot downstairs. The performances also aren’t always happening on Sundays; the Bottomless Food and drink is, but you can always enjoy a show with your margarita in hand on Saturdays.
Book your brunch for this upcoming Saturday or the following ones here or call 917-262-0444
As a sidenote, Toro Loco also serves lunch and dinner during the week and opens at 11:30am everyday.
