The West Village’s  The Left Bank, is the classic NYC bistro with a European soul.

It garners some this European ambiance from its location, in a beautiful landmarked building at the intersection of two historic Manhattan streets, Perry and Greenwich.

Their brunch menu satisfies both sweet and savory palates with items ranging from a ceremoniously-presented Berries & Fruit Dutch Baby or pancake, served with lemon, butter and maple syrup to Smoked Salmon and Whitefish, served with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce, atop a potato latke. There is also a hearty old-world sounding dish of pot roast and eggs.

The menu ventures beyond Europe to what’s become a NYC brunch staple, Huevos Rancheros, served with corn tortilla, black beans, and jalapeño. The crowning achievement on their short menu of sandwiches, is an Open-Faced Steak Sandwich on a slice of grilled garlic toast slathered in liver pate.

Other brunch options include Brioche French Toast (served with honey butter), another savory Dutch Baby, made with Rosemary Ham and Bechamel, and the always favorite Avocado Toast. Classics are the Tuna Nicoise and Chicken Caesar Salads.

Executive Chef Laurence Edelman is at the helm of Left Bank’s dishes. From working in other eateries like Felidia, The Red Cat, Mermaid Inn and Barbuto, he has a calling for farm fresh produce and humane practices of his meat sourcing. This is portrayed in Left Bank’s menu with simple seasonal eats, handmade pastas and that perfectly roasted chicken.

The Beverage Program is run by Ian Morrison, a lover of wines as a Level 2 Sommelier, who was most recently at Brooklyn’s Natural Wine Co. in Williamsburg.

If you would like to plan a say, an anniversary, birthday, graduation or any occasion really, Left Bank offers private dining in their cellar room, which can seat up to 20 people.
These can be booked as a three-course a la carte menu, a family-style timpano dinner, or a four-course menu served family style.

The upstairs main dining can also be the perfect setting for private cocktail parties, for up to 75 people or seated dinners of up to 55 people.

The restaurant has a sunny and comfortable vibe just right for brunching but their night time special dinners might be even more intriguing.  Fans of the food movie-classic Big Night  should flock to their Timpano Sunday dinners, where they cook up a set-price feast including the legendarily mammoth Italian baked pasta dish made famous in the movie and you can have a big night of your own.

Finally, if you’re looking for some take out worth your while, Left Bank offers Poulet Sans Tête, as a rotisserie chicken delivery service from, which is available for both delivery and pick-up.
