You might be wondering I’ve heard of G-Shock, but what is it really all about? Well, G-shock was first established by Kikuo Ibe, who set out to make an unbreakable watch; in which he succeeded. Here’s when G-Shock was born and 35 years later its creation was celebrated by a panel of speakers. including Mr. Ibe himself and the Vice President of Casio; both speaking on its successes thoughout the years.

During the panel, we learned that there was another call for celebration, G-Shock had sold over 100,000,000 watches world wide! Used by folks of all walks of life, G-Shock has done alot with its various looks and collaborations.

To discuss the history and the reasons why they love the brand, G-SHOCK snowboarding Athlete, Louie Vito, RedBar Group (a worldwide weekly watch gathering) Co-Founder Adam Craniotes, Author and Condé Nast Traveler Editor Matt Hranek, KITH Owner Ronnie Fieg, and others spoke about what G-Shock meant to them. All in all it was pretty much indestructible.

We also got to visualize the shock resistantance power through a live demonstration of the brand’s first commercial, which features a hockey player hitting the watches instead of pucks. One stage was Mark Messier, New York Rangers and hockey legend joined the Executive Managing Officer, Mr. Shigenori Itoh, who hit one of the watches into the net. After this awesaome display, he dropped a few more watches into the net and even threw some into the crowd for lucky winners to enjoy.

By the end of the presentation, Kikuo Ibe showed everyone his newest creation, the Sapphire Crystal G-Shock watch, this man was on fire!  For many years he had dreamed to make even the most delicate of materials shock resistant and this was a challenge he had gladly sought after. Also newly introduced was a GPS enabled watch which  can sync to an app on your devicer, tracking of all your adventures, urban or in the wild.

In the gallery outisde the theatre, we got an upclose view of the progression of G-Shock. All the collaborations through out the years with brands such as Bathing Ape, Stussy and others were  featured. There was even another display showing its resistance by hitting a watch with a 10 pound weight.

Following the presentations and drank, we got a badass live performance featuring A$AP Ferg, A$AP Mob, and DJ Virgil Abloh. In the past 35 years it seems that the company has continued to push the envelope on innovation and has been doing so well, here’s to another 35 years!!!
