After a few years of popping up around the US with glitter filled activations, Winky Lux has settled down with a permanent flagship store in the Lower East Side. Earlier this month we attended their grand opening, celebrating all of their fabulous products, multiple photo opportunities and even more knowledgeable staff. Pinks of all hues, soft golds and neon adorn every inch of the space, making it eye catching and ideal to perfect your pose all over Instagram!
The night was filled with magazine editors, fashion bloggers and friends of the brand, who spent the night bouncing from photo opp to photo opp, or dancing to beats by DJ Ryan Vandal. The Winky Lux flower wall is a staple at any of their events and always the place to make a stop at. My personal favorite was the the silver metallic and mirrored room, which made taking the perfect selfie super fun. Another photo opportunity that is a must, is the LED light tunnel. The addition of glitter, for throwing into the air made it all more exciting. Babe Wines and Makku rice “beers” kept guests hydrated paired with some delicious Lebanese cuisine supplied by Yara, a Lebanese hot spot located in Midtown.
Founded in 2015 by Natalie Mackey and Nate Newman, Winky Lux came onto the beauty scene with the social media favorite Flower Balm, a color changing lip balm that changes into the perfect shade of pink for your lips, due to your skin’s pH-levels. The brand was, and still is, on a mission to bring cleaner beauty products into the market. Pigmented, colorful and playful products that are healthier for you; cruelty-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free and phthalate-free!
Over the years I have had the opportunity to try out many of the brand’s various products, and I have fallen in love thanks to adorable packaging ,andg product quality. If I had to pick a favorite product, the Matte Lip Velour in Meow is my go to lip color any day of the week. The color is a muted mauve that comes off as natural purplish pink. The Matte Lip Velour formulation isn’t drying on the lips, has a long-wearing formulation and is very pigmented. Available in 15 different shades, this lipstick comes in everyday wearable lipstick colors to extreme colors like Mermaid (a vibrant teal).
A new favorite is the White Tea Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 30. Sold out in most shades online, stop into the store to try it out and purchase it before their website restocks. The sheer tint to this moisturizer blends right into the skin with a light blurring effect to provide the best base for no-makeup days. At the flagship every product available online is on display to be tested and played with before purchase. That being said, I highly suggest playing with their Glitter Puff Body Glitter, very fun!
The NYC flagship, located at 100 Rivington, is open 7 days a week, so you will have plenty of opportunities to stop by and experience it for yourself. If you plan on traveling to Nashville anytime soon, Winky Lux, also has a location in Pie Town that has been opened for almost a year. It is currently closed and undergoing a renovation, but I was told by a representative from the brand that it will be reopening in the next few weeks with new decor, photo opps and even more products to check out!
