Rewind to a few weeks back, and we’re still gushing over Storytellers, the Tribeca Film Festival Talk that brought together Boots Riley, director of the mind-altering film Sorry to Bother You, and special guest Questlove at the Tribeca Film Festival hub, at Spring Studios.
Questlove is legendary drummer, DJ, producer, culinary entrepreneur, New York Times best-selling author, and, as a member of The Roots, the nucleus of Philly’s most influential hip-hop group. He is the Musical Director for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where his Roots crew serves as house band.
Joining Questlove in conversation, groundbreaking musician and filmmaker Boots Riley, who is best known as the lead vocalist for the hip-hop group The Coup as well as the writer and director of the acclaimed, revolutionary breakout film Sorry to Bother You. These visionary artists discussed pretty much everything from their boundless and eclectic careers. “All art is political,” said Riley, who detailed the genesis of the movie’s surreal Marxist story of a African-American telemarketer, and traded stories with Questlove about the nitty-gritty of the creative process. The talk was moderated by writer Ben Greenman.
