The Holidays might be your favorite time of the year because of the presents, the music, or even all the delicious food you get to shamelessly eat. But for us here at NYC Plugged, it’s the parties. It seems like very weekend there’s a new holiday party filling up your calendars and things can get hectic pretty quickly. So what if you want to throw your own? Party planning isn’t easy and the last thing you want is to have your soiree fail during the most important time of the year. We’ve put together some easy tips to make sure that doesn’t happen!

Setting the Mood

“This is so cheesy but you have to have  ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ play at some point during the night. Everyone knows the words and you can’t go wrong with a classic.” – Natalia Tyndall (Contributor)

“I like chill music, and also danceable music. Unfortunately I have to make a playlist ahead of time because if I don’t people won’t want to listen to my eclectic ever changing songs.” – Tiffany (Contributor)

“Dance music! A good mix of rock, hip hop, and pop culture. Basically any type of music that gets people in high spirits.” – Dee Williams (Photographer)

“Honestly….that Chance the Rapper & Jeremih collab Xmas mixtape “Merry Christmas Lil’ Mama” cause it’s the only Xmas themed music I’d listen to.” – Soshy Petroulas (Contributor)

“I really appreciate holiday parties that incorporate up and coming soundcloud artists in the playlist. This may consist of Ugly God, Lil Uzi Vert, Migos, Post Malone, XXX Tentacion, Sango, The internet, etc…. The DJ sometime is the reason I stay or leave an event that’s lacking in other *cough* open bar *cough* variables.” – Raymond  “Sunny” Connor (Photographer)

I’m one of the most indecisive people on the planet and that translates to my musical taste. I like a good variety of music and change the vibe depending on what my mood is or what event I’m hosting. For Holiday parties- or any party- I find Spotify is my best friend. – Ashley Steinberg (Contributor)

Eats For Days

“When in doubt, potluck is the way to go. You get to try a new food and you don’t have to stress over the menu.” – Natalia Tyndall (Contributor)

“Wings: easy to make a bunch for a large party and add a variety of flavors” – Tiffany (Contributor)

“Wings, nachos, champagne, lots of cake, salad. The list can go on.” – Dee Williams  (Photographer)

“If you’re throwing a holiday party in NYC, Alcohol should always be free and in abundance. The word open bar has been known to establish huge turnouts and persuade individual to pay that $20 cover charge to enter your space for 2-3 hours.” – Raymond “ Sunny” Connor (Photographer)

“GINGERBREAD COOKIES! I never cared for them as a kid, but now they’re my favorite Christmas-time treat.” – Ashley Steinberg (Contributor)

Don’t Forget the Fun!

“Do holiday-themed karaoke and whoever messes up the words has to take a drink. See who lasts the longest.” – Natalia Tyndall (Contributor)

“Photobooth + drinking and trivia games” -Dee Williams  (Photographer)

“Honestly raffles, cocktails, and a relevant soundtrack are essential for a successful holiday party.” – Raymond “Sunny” Connor (Photographer)

“I’m all about the pop-ups, especially the holiday-themed bars in the city.” – Ashley Steinberg (Contributor)
