Kicked It In Heels’ Fundraiser Recap!

Last Wednesday night, Kicked It In Heels’ held their Fifth Annual Fundraiser at Beautique in the Upper East Side.  The night was dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer and addressing healthcare disparities among minorities and young women facing the disease.

CNN Commentator Angela Rye hosted the evening, where two survivors were honored: Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of NewYork-Presbyterian Dr. Laura Forese, and Media Executive and Community Activist Keisha Sutton-James.

From all corners, words of empowerment and courage were spoken by many. The Founder of Kicked It In Heels, Dr. Janna Andrews, who is also Assistant Clinical Professor of Radiation Medicine at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, gave a speech addressing healthcare disparities among women of color diagnosed with breast cancer and the importance of early detection.  The honored survivors also shared their own breast cancer stories and spoke on why nonprofits like Kicked It In Heels are so important.

The fundraiser also included a silent auction with a wide range of prizes from a private box at a New York Giants game to roundtrip airfare on JetBlue.  The afterparty had guests indulging in cocktails and  hors d’ oeuvres, while dancing the night away to DJ D-Nice.

Kicked It In Heels’ mission is to eradicate health care disparities in breast cancer and to promote health in survivorship. KIH focus on breast cancer survivors, specifically young women and women of color. They provide basic information on screening and highlighting survivors’ experiences as they reclaim their normal lives. After diagnosis, KIH encourages lifestyle adjustments and dialogue by offering workshops focused on fitness, beauty and wellness, such asRide for Survivors with SoulCycle, Rent the Runway Day of Beauty and the Kicked It In Heels Exhale Yoga Workshop with Exhale Spa. Kicked It In Heels is also a vehicle to conduct community-based studies that address healthcare disparities.
