Check out our recap of the FW17 shows and presentations we attended!

Gudrun & Gudrun
Date: Tuesday February 7th
Location: Rogue Space

Fashion brand Gudrun & Gudrun put on a presentation where guests were able to get up close and personal with their FW17 Collection. What sets them apart from other brands is their ambition to cater to the conscious consumer, by utilizing natural resources to produce their clothing. Hand knitted on the Faroe Islands, a cluster of islands located between Iceland & Norway, Gudrun & Gudrun keeps true to their homeland by representing the islands in each design.

NYFW was the first time for Gudrun & Gudrun showed their collection in the US, therefore you can imagine the crowd that came out to celebrate. The hors d’oeuvres , drinks and music took from the Faroe Islands culture, making the whole experience an ideal introduction to the NYC market!

ARTISTIX
Date: Saturday February 11th
Location: Jane Hotel

A collaboration between Founder Greg Polissesni and Fashion Director Andy Hilfiger. ARTISTIX embodies the colors of autumn, reminiscent of Greg’s ‘Harvest’ paintings. Carrying the same name, the Harvest collection has 19 looks both for men and women bringing uniform wear to the forefront of fashion.

The presentation took place on two stages, with the models doing a quick pose at one and walking around to stand together on another to view the collection in its entirety. Rock and roll music in the background combined with contrasting lighting created the perfect environment. As for the polishing of the looks, hair-styling was done by Salon Firefly, make up by NU Evolution and shoes were provided by Dr. Martens and Vince Camuto. An open bar provided by Effen Vodka.

The current ARTISTIX seasons collections are sold in Lord & Taylor and various boutiques with the Harvest collection looking to expand into other  stores come Fall 2017.

Gypsy Sport
Date: Sunday February 12th
Place: Skylight Clarkson Square

The thing I loved this most about Gypsy Sport FW 17 Show was the diversity of the models, also an important factor  for designer Rio Uribe. The models were of all colors, body types and genders and the looks were just as diversified. Titled “The World Wide Resist Tents”, the inspiration behind the collection was urban street wear and  outdoor living no matter your circumstance. Camouflage, netting and tie-dye was seen in a lot of the looks. A longtime advocate of diversity and inclusiveness of all in the fashion world, the Gypsy Sport collection also represented activism, many of the models being activists themselves who bring positive vibes to their communities. Hair was by Bumble and Bumble and makeup by MAC Cosmetics.

Leanne Marshall
Date: Sunday February 12th
Place: Skylight Clarkson Square

Elegant and beautiful, words to describe the Leanne Marshall FW17 show. The use of satin and chiffon materials gave each model the feeling as if they were walking on air as the bottom of their dresses flowed beneath them. More than the materials were the cuts; the asymmetrical top cuts were met with  slits, showing skin but in the right amounts. The colors of each look also ranged from contrasted reds and blacks to more subtle greys and silvers.

Leanne was the winner of Project Runway Season 5 and like her finale collection,  wowed us once again with her use of beautiful cuts, color, and materials. Hair and makeup was done by Aveda, nails by Unistella. Shoes were provided by Summit Shoes.

Latinista 2/13
Date: Monday February 13th
Location: Punto Space

LATINISTA Fashion Week started in 2011 as a collaboration between IMAN Cosmetics and Latina Magazine. The objective is to commemorate the works of both celebrity and emerging designers of Hispanic background through providing them with a supportive platform to showcase their designs during Fashion Week. LATINISTA Fashion Week has since grown and gained the attention of not only Latinos/Latinas, but all fashion gurus going on its 6th year.

LATINISTA Fashion Week kicked off with the Emerging Designer Presentation, to be followed by the featured Celebrity Designer collections of Sandra Baquero and Cesar Galindo. Hair and makeup was by the Aveda Team using Iman Cosmetics .

Sandra Baquero, is a native of Colombia and based in New York City. Her style can be described as cozy and versatile, yet chic based on her AW17 collection. Models clad in light outerwear that combined bold cuts with comfortable fabrics, and use of minimal color, can give a new edge to any look and is easily layered with fancy or casual attire. As someone who lives to wear Autumn capes and vests, Baquero’s collection stood out for her fashionable twist on the classic fall looks. Not to mention her standout hat collection will give you a reason to leave the house even during the cold months.

Casar Galindo is an accomplished designer for his Czar Collections and work with other highend designers and private clients. He has been a huge support for LATINISTA and has contributed to its growth. His collection of long silky and sequence dresses and jumpsuits, predominate colors being red, black, and white, show his taste for sophistication along with standout patterns giving his pieces just enough movement to catch the eye.

Miguel Vieira
Date: Tuesday February 14th
Location: Pier 59

Miguel Vieira has been in the business for over 20 years and this season FW 2017 collection solidifies why. This collection highlighted his “go to” signature black and white motifs with hints of maroon to add vibrancy. No collection is complete without including touches of lace, leather & velvet, giving the look more texture. Vieira stays true to his name by providing a versatile collection; offering pieces that could go from night to day or even from the office to a formal affair.

There were plenty of looks from the crowd as garments made their way down the runway, with people fantasying about how they would pair these pieces, or was that just me?. I appreciated how Miguel played with light and dark colors to create a monochromatic vibe, and did I mention that some of his pieces were unisex! Miguel Vieira’s show was definitely a hit and we are looking forward to future collections!

Chiara Boni Le Petite
Date: Tuesday February 14th
Location: Skylight Clarkson Square

Chiara Boni, a self-taught designer from Florence, Italy, first started her La Petite Robe collection in 2007, which has since gained universal recognition, being displayed on racks in premier retail stores and boutiques all over Europe, the Middle East, and North America. Chiara Boni La Petite Robe falls under the category of contemporary women’s clothing, best known for its timeless, well-fitted pieces.

The Grand Hotel theme of the show was memorable with an opening and closing. Bell-boys carried Chiara Boni shopping bags filled with red roses tailing a few feet behind the models, whom strutted confidently in elegant, skin-tight dress designs. This dynamic scene presented women as powerful, well-traveled, and successful. The timeless and seasonless dress designs, essential for any lady boss, included unique embellishments, such as zippers, dress tails, and leather accents. Hair and makeup was done by Aveda.

Mimi Proper
Date: Tuesday February 14th
Location: Skylight Clarkson Square

Mimi Prober, a graduate of New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, is renowned for her delicately handcrafted designer pieces, combining past and present while fashioning antique materials and textiles into pieces that embody current trends. Every piece on the runway was a unique blend of sheer materials, whether lace, wool, or sequence with eye catching details. Prober’s collection is truly a work of wearable art. Hair was done by Marc Mena of Warren Tricomi Salon, Make up by Kelli Bartlett of Glam Squad and nails by Pattie Yankee for Patricia Nails Lacquers.

The Blonds
Date: Tuesday February 14th
Location: Skylight Clarkson Square

All I can say is wow! The Blonds never seems to disappoint, and FW17 was no exception. The inspiration for the collection was the movie, The Mummy, coming out this summer and based on the story of a princess whose destiny is taken away from her in an unjust way. The character in the movie is a princess and fearless warrior who must embrace her destiny and the collection embodies just that with hard embellishments matched with soft flowing materials. Presented in pairs, both sides to the princess are made into looks and put on center stage: The Pure and The Powerful. The front row was also filled with celebs, those spotted included Paris Hilton, Randy Jackson, Joe Zee, Cardi B, PatrickStarrr, Jillian Mercado and Shaun Ross. Hair was done by Kien Hoang using Oribe Hair Care, Makeup by Kabuki Magic and MAC Cosmetics and nails by Jan Arnold of CND Nails.

Jarret
Date: Wednesday February 15th
Location: Pier 59

Jarret is a modern, almost futuristic women’s label that “pursues on-duty and off-duty life.” Created by Ji Youn Lee of South Korea, the collection plays a fun costume-like twist on everyday wear such as extravagant hoodies weighted down by fur, or metallic boots with athletic style leggings. Each piece held its own vibrant aesthetic whether in the color of the fur-trim, or one-of-a-kind never before seen combination of cuts and materials. Hair was done by Franco and Co and and makeup by Michelle Webb from The Academy of Freelance Makeup.

A few brands also showcased their Spring/Summer 17 Collection, available on the spot!

Club Monaco
Date: Friday February 10th
Location: Club Monaco Flagship Store

As I entered the store I was transported into a whimsical land abound with flowers and in every corner of your eye. The colorful patterns and peasant details seen in the collection was inspired by the documentary Latcho Drom, which follows a family’s travels from Romania to India celebrated through song and dance. For the presentation of the collection, models walked through the store runway style and the men and women stood in separate areas of the store for a closer view.

The beautiful spring flower arrangements were created by Putnam & Putnam, which also has a shop inside of Club Monaco and a delicious spread of desserts and small bites were made by Sqirl. The collections is now available in-store and online!

Domenico Vacca
Date: Thursday February 16th
Location: Domenico Vacca Flagship Store

Domenico Vacca showcased his SS17 Presentation with a Fashion Week Closing Party. Guests got the chance to see the collection up close and meet Domenico himself. Domenico also revealed a special piece designed for this season, the “Sofia” dress inspired by Sophia Lauren’s dress in Mambo Italiano video.  Every piece in the collection was very wearable. I loved the floral designs of the men’s suits and the the beautiful cuts of the women’s skirts (the black pleated one was my favorite) and dresses. Celebrity guests included Rob Shuter, Marc Eliot, Gianni Russo, Antoine Verglas, Eleonora Pieroni, Kitisha Kitty and others. This was the brand’s first celebration of NYFW in the new location. Stop by the store to check out the collection for yourself!
